This is an original owner, original Pontiac GTO Convertible with a 400 V8, auto with factory console and Pontiac rally wheels.
This car has been cared for all its life, being maintained and garaged and with only 63,000 original miles.
The car retains all its original body panels and had a light restoration back in 2015 that included new paint to match the factory original color and having the engine cleaned, painted and detailed as well as a top end- refresh.
The car runs and drives perfect.
There is no rust anywhere on this car.
The interior is the original and in near perfect condition.
The history of this car includes originally built/Assembled in Baltimore Md 1967-1968, Vehicle was transported to a dealer in New Hampshire from factory in 1968.
Owner returned from a six-month trip (Merchant Marine) to India in May of '68.
Owner was unable to order a GTO as it was too late in the model year.
Owner called a few dealers in the area and one, Brown Pontiac/Olds on Route 1 in Saco, Maine was able to find the car in New Hampshire (not sure where probably Portsmouth) and drive it back to Maine.
Owner made that purchase and signed the papers in June in 1968 and has owned it ever since.
In the winter of 1968-69 the owner drove the car to NY/NJ and stored in in a Garage named A-1 Garage Storage, Hoboken, NJ, where a lot of the guys stored their vehicles while shipping out for service(Merchant Marine).
Union Hall was nearby as well.
Owner flew to West Coast to catch a ship, the SS Exmouth and carried ammunition to VM for 5-6 months.
The owner returned in March 1969 to retrieve his GTO.
Married in August 1970 in Portland, ME, the owner unfortunately did not make arrangements for a room that night and ended up waking up one of his ushers to use his motel room and offered his GTO for them to sleep in.
The owner has meticulously maintained and cared for this car.
The car has been as far north as Montreal, and far south as NY/NJ since owned and pretty much all-over New England since.
The car has been garaged all but 3-4 years early on.
It was Z-Barted back in '72-3.
Most miles have been put on prior to 1990 but as still maintains only 62,594 original miles.
The original convertible top still works but does have a small rip on the inside (see picture).
Sale includes original 1968 Maine Plate, original chrome valve covers, factory protecto plate, original dealer sticker and a 1968 Popular Mechanics magazine featuring the 1968 GTO.
