Full Time301B Route 1Clerical/Administrative SupportDay Shift Position Summary Financial Counselors are responsible for collections, negotiations and resolutions of self pay accounts, free care determinations, multiple bad debt programs, setting up monthly payment plans and patient interviews using a fully automated and integrated collection system.
Must have solid comprehensive knowledge of Insurance Plan assignments, State and Federal agencies including MaineCare & Medicare regulations in billing is needed to assist patients in the resolution of complex billing issues.
This position requires an advanced level of customer service, analytical, mathematical and organizational skills in order to maintain a high level of production in an extremely stressful and task driven environment.
The ability to function as part of a team is critical to the success of Financial Counseling and the department.
Two to five years of previous collection experience in a hospital/medical office is required.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Education:
A high school diploma is preferred.

Experience:
Two to five years of previous collection experience in a hospital/medical office in addition to two to five years experience in customer service.
Computer experience is required and the Financial Counselor must be proficient with web-based applications, Microsoft office, work quality monitors and E-mail.
Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with patients, patient representatives, third party payors and a variety of people with varying professional backgrounds in the resolution of patient billing problems.
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft and compose letters.
Knowledge and use of office equipment to include calculators, photo copiers, printers, fax machines and multi line telephone system.
Ability to communicate professionally and exercise respect when dealing with all patients, co-workers and colleagues at all times, despite the demands of an extremely fast paced and stressful workplace due to a high volume of customer service calls.
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
Must have sufficient mathematical skills in order to calculate proof of income for free care eligibility, prompt payment discounts and monthly payment plans.
Comprehensive knowledge of State and Federal agencies including MaineCare & Medicare regulations.
In addition the Financial Counselor needs to have a general knowledge of ICD-9 diagnosis codes, CPT codes, UB-92/UB-04 billing forms and HCFA 1500 billing forms, needed to assist patients and third party payors in the resolution of complex billing issues.
Must have strong customer service and problem solving skills in order to work independently and maintain a positive attitude in a fast paced office environment in order to deal effectively with challenging patients/families and complex situations.
Ability to understand and utilize daily/weekly reports to support job functionality.
Attention to detail and thoroughness is essential to the job.
Ability to comprehend departmental and institutional policies and procedures including, HIPPA confidentiality laws and how the laws pertain to interactions amongst patients, peers, and colleagues is mandatory.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
